Amid record rainfalls in Ohio, the John Glenn girls soccer team waited and watched the weather reports to see if they were even going to get to play their home opener on Monday night, August 17th, but the weather let up long enough to make it work.
The Maysville Panthers bus rolled into New Concord, and after warm-ups, the battle began. The Lil’ Muskies jumped into action right away with Layken Cochran hitting a goal in the first two minutes off of a Kendall Snider assist to lead the game 1 – 0. The first half of the game continued on with the two teams evenly matched and swapping possession. With just over 20 minutes left in the first half, Maysville’s Mailee Valentine hit a goal assisted by Kyrie Valentine to level the game at 1 – 1.
The rest of the game went on without a score, giving John Glenn a draw to start their season. Lil’ Muskie goalkeeper Celia Sabino had four saves off of five shots.
John Glenn is headed to Tuscarawas County on Saturday to face Tuscarawas Valley at 11 AM. They will be back at home on Tuesday, hosting the Quakers.
